Good-bye to 2012

Can you believe it? We are saying good-bye to another year. Where did this year go. Time seems to be marching by so fast. I hope you are looking to 2013 as much as I am. We are hoping for a healthier year since Tom and I both had surgery this past year. I am looking for more time to craft for Operation Write Home. I started sending them cards in August of 2012 and if I have a resolution this year I think it will be to increase the amount of cards I make for them. Because of the impending postal increase coming up at the end of January, OWH is having a challenge.

heck out all the details about the Race to the Mailbox challenge. Mail your cards before the postal increase on January 27th and follow the OWH instructions and you'll have a chance to win one of 5 goodie boxes filled with craft supplies. New goodies to start out the new year!

Now I did a card for today but it's not for OWH. My son Dan visited for the holidays but has returned home to Boston. We share a love for football and especially the Colts. They won yesterday with a wonderful game against the Houston Texans so I mad him a card to say thanks for visiting and "Go Colts!" in the playoffs.

The image is from Doodle Pantry called Football and Helmets Color Plus. I used the color version of the football but the outline of the helmet and colored it Colts blue. My background is a piece of green card stock that I used a white gel pen to draw the lines for the yards and added the Colts names in the end zones. The helmet is colored with Copic Markers.

I am entering these challenges:

I want to wish you a safe and Happy end to 2012 and beginning to 2013. Don't forget that Doodle Pantry is having a 50% off everything except gift certificates today only (December 31st). That includes all the new January releases which we will showcase tomorrow. See you then!

Oh the Weather Outside is Frightful

We were certainly singing that song today as the blizzard moved through south-central Indiana. We cut our Christmas short yesterday to get home before the storm. We weren't scheduled to come home until today but decided that with up to 14 inches forecasted we thought we should drive home early so we weren't driving through nasty weather. It turned out to be a good move as we got about a foot of snow today. Here are a few pictures of my boys shoveling the driveway. This was with about 10 inches on the ground.

So it's been a fun day of staying home. Almost everything was closed including Indiana University, a very rare event. Unfortunately, if you are on vacation it doesn't count as a free day. Tom and I were on vacation. Oh well!

I had some time to play today. Finished a couple of design team projects for Doodle Pantry. Stay tuned for those next week. I am working on thank you cards for Christmas gifts too. But today I am sharing a card that I made at a make and take event for Hero Arts.

The background is stamped with a gorgeous background stamp in white.  It took forever to dry even with heat drying it. I added the sentiment and background paper and the bow from twine. Fun time with all Hero Arts supplies. I am entering these challenges:

Hope your weather is bright and sunny and your Christmas celebration was wonderful! Thanks for stopping by today!

Lazy Blogger

I've been extremely lazy at blogging this week. I've just been trying to get everything done for Christmas and I finally accomplished it today. Everything is bought, made and wrapped. And it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. We had Christmas with the kids today. Dan drove in from Boston and today was the only day that Tricia could come until late next week. So we had a nice afternoon opening presents and watching football and eating of course!

I've been working on some extra things and some I didn't take pictures of. What was I thinking. I made 3 final Christmas cards yesterday and forgot to take picture of any of them. I did make about 40 Hershey Christmas trees. I gave these to co-workers, table friends at a holiday dinner and used them in place of gift card holders. They were great fun to make!

You can find the directions to make these at QBee's Quest.

I embellished the outside with ribbon. On the originals at QBee's Quest she added a bow at the top. I made a small tag from a star punch or ornament punch and stamped a greeting. I put the tree in a baggie and tied the bag and tag with baker's twine to finish off.

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas. Tomorrow we travel to visit family. Hope your holidays are wonderful!

Sending Prayers to Connecticut

I've been rather quiet over the past few days. It's not that I haven't been working on things but I've just been down. My heart and prayers go out to all the families who lost loved ones in Newtown, CT last week. I read something today that helped lift my spirits a bit and I wanted to repost in hopes that it might help someone else. Thank you Cammie for posting this beautiful tribute!

Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
they were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say.
they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
"this is heaven." declared a small boy. "we're spending Christmas at God's house."
when what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.
and as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad."
then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
"Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"
"may this country be delivered from the hands of fools"
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"
then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"come now my children, let me show you around."
excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
and i heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
"in the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

Woof!

Here's another one of my last minute Christmas cards. We sometimes dog-sit for out friends' dog named Margo. She's a rather large fun dog and so a couple of years ago I started sending Margo a Christmas card. I had colored the image a while ago but never finished the actual card. So I finally put it together today to send off to our dig friend, Margo.

The dog bone was a free digi from Stamp Fairy. The actual dog image was also a freebie but I missed writing down where I got it. If anyone knows where it came from please let me know and I will edit this post. The circle image is from Snoopy's Homemade Fun. I used a little doodle twine by Doodlebug. I used the sketch from the Wednesday challenge at the Outlawz. I am also entering the Hiding in my Craft Room challenge to use digital stamps. That's it for now. Thanks for stopping by.

CAS Christmas

I am still finishing up Christmas cards so today I have a CAS card.

I used a red textured card stock for the base. I scored the green card stock and then used a nail file to file off the raised areas. It gave it a distressed look. I backed it with a yellow background to make it pop. And I added my favorite image for this season. I used this for several of my cards. To finish I added a few self-adhesive rhinestones. I'm entering these challenges:
  • CASual Friday challenge: Even the score; using scoring on your project
  • Simon Says challenge: What's your favorite? Tool, stamp, product? One of my favorite thing to use is the Scor-Pal and I also used my favorite Christmas stamp this year.
Hope your week gets off to a great start. I am only working two days this week and looking forward to two weeks of vacation. I won't need to go back to work until January 2nd. I do have a second interview for a job I applied for in August on Wednesday. We'll see how that goes. Take care! Thanks for stopping by!

Red and Green

If you are looking for the Doodle Pantry Oldies but Goodies blog hop click here.

I've been dying all weekend to create something since I had taken Friday off and had a three day weekend. Friday was my husband's holiday party at work and he was honored for 25 years of service to the university. And after that we moved my daughter to her new apartment. So I was dead tired on Friday evening and both Tom and I went to bed by 9:30pm. On Saturday I spent the day rearranging furniture and cleaning. In the evening we played bridge with some friends. Today I did some shopping, laundry, set up the Christmas tree and watched the Colts win against the Titans! Go Colts! While watching, I finished crocheting a pair of slippers for a Christmas present. After the game, I made dinner and cleaned up the kitchen and generally got ready for the week. We also took my car to the repair shop. It needs some work so we had scheduled the appointment for tomorrow, so I'll be driving my sons car this week. But after that I finally had a chance to sit down at my desk. Last Sunday evening I took a trip to Michael's for their evening sale and came back with a Spellbinder's Hampton Arts set that I found in the clearance section for a penny. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what it rang up for on the receipt. But I've been dying to try it out. So my card tonight uses this new Spellbinders shapeabilites set with flower stamps and dies to cut them out.

It's a pretty straightforward card. The green back panel is embossed with the Sizzix Holly Swirl embossing folder. Then I used a designer paper with chevrons. The sentiment image was a freebie digital stamp from Beccy's Place. The embellishments are my new penny stamp and die set. I popped them up to give some dimension to the card. Love it!

I am entering these challenges:
I can see my new flower stamps becoming a favorite. Really love how these turned out. Thanks for stopping by today. Hope you have a wonderful start to your week. It will be a busy one for me. Several more holiday events to attend but after this week it should calm down! Hugs to you!

Oldies but Goodies

Happy weekend! You will be glad you stopped by today because I have a special treat. I'm participating in a Doodle Pantry "oldies but goodies" blog hop. The blog hop begins at 6a.m. December 8th and runs through 11:59p.m. December 9th. Some of the design team got together and decided to show off some of the Doodle Pantry older sets. If you came here from Lori's blog you are on the right track. If not you may want to start at the Doodle Pantry blog and follow along. Be sure to leave a comment on each blog. One of the commenters will receive a $20 gift certificate to Doodle Pantry.
I chose the owl set for my project today.
I just love the realistic look of the owl. So I used a sketch from Page Maps for my card.

I used a distressed look to go along with the oldies theme. I used Copics to highlight the image and color in the branch. I cut and embossed the image with Spellbinders rectangle die and sponged the background with Stampin' Up! Bashful Blue ink. The base is gray card stock so I added a gray accented twine. The background was embossed with distressed stripes embossing folder and then inked it with Memento Rich Cocoa ink. The image and sentiment are from the Qwl set.

Edit: All the stamp sets featured on the blog hop are an extra 25% off Saturday and Sunday during the hop. Check out the Digi Grab Bag!

Extra Extra: I am also offering some blog candy today. Here's what could win:
2 Serendipity Snowmen Stamps
2 Webster's Pages fabric ribbons
1 package Make it Christmas stickers

So you have at least 2 chances to win by participating in the blog hop. To be entered to win, please leave a comment and tell me what is your favorite treat that you only get at Christmas time. Also please leave a way to contact you in case you win my blog candy. I will randomly draw a winner on Monday December 10th.

Don't forget the 35% off sale at Doodle Pantry on all images. The sale is good until January 3rd. It's a great way to stock up on some of the images that you've seen in the hop. Now to continue with the hop go and check out the amazing project at Ellen's blog. Thanks for participating in the blog hop. Good luck with winning the candies!

Tags Containers

I've been working on several big projects and I showed you the Count Down to Christmas the past few days. So today I have some altered containers that were given to some special people at the Girl Scout holiday pitch-in dinner on Monday night.

Here are all three containers with their tags. The images that I used for all three containers were free digital images from Dearie Dolls. I cut the snowflakes with my Cricut and then decorated them with Stickles. Here are some close-up pictures.

The top of the can with another Cricut cut snowflakes decorated with Stickles.

I think the tags just give the containers that something special!

I'm entering these altered cans in the following challenges:
Thanks for stopping today. More to come very soon.

The Final Count Down

The last five days of my Doodle Pantry Count Down. I've saved some of the best for last. Some of my favorite sets!

Day 21:
Here's the Winter Songbirds singing their beautiful Christmas carols. The sentiment is from Caroling Friends stamp set. I used a Martha Stewart punch for the border.

Day 22:
This day I used the Holiday Cactus all decorated for Christmas. Lots of borders to compliment the cactus.

Day 23:
Let the baking begin! Time for more of the fun ants with baking cookies. I know this is a Doodle Pantry set but couldn't find it on the site. I'm going to edit this as soon as I find it.

Day 24:

Here is my favorite Winter Star. Absolutely gorgeous! Complimented with Spellbinders dies and Martha Stewart border punch.

And last but not least Day 25:
This is the Mini Bethlehem set. Hooked up with some lovely paper. I believe the sentiment is from Designs by TLC.

There you have it my Advent Count Down Doodle Pantry Style. And here's the entire set on the clip.

You can check out the entire set by scrolling down through the blog. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my products. More to come.

Countdown 16 to 20

So here's more of my advent fun with Doodle Pantry images.

Day 16:
The image is from Gingerbread Ants. I stamped and cut out the chef's hat. Love that Merry Christmas and holly designer paper.

Day 17:
Check out Holiday Sheep decorating their way into my heart. I stamped the additional lights from a retired Stampin' Up! set. The perfect embellishment!

Day 18:

And what's Christmas without a little Merry Mistletoe? You can't see it in the photo but some of the berries are popped up to give it dimension.

Day 19:
Hopefully by the 19th I'll have all my presents bought and wrapped but I doubt it since I am working through the 18th. But here I have a head start with these lovely wrapped gifts from the Santa Accessories set.

Day 20:
And here's the lovely Poinsettia set. I layered the beautifully colored flowers and partnered it with one of my favorite papers.

Thanks for stopping by today. Tomorrow will be the final 5 days of the Doodle Pantry count down. Please come back and check it out. Don't forget to leave me a comment and let me know what you think. I love your comments.

More Count Down

Happy Monday! And welcome to a new week. Today I am continuing the count down to Christmas.

Day 11:
When I saw the Christmas Wreath set I knew it would go perfectly with my window die. The sentiment is from Holly Stag.

Day 12:
Here's another one of my favorites. The stamp set is called Little Deer.  I tore the paper to make it look like snow drifts and added some three dimensional snowflakes.

Day 13:
I just love Mister Monkey. I did a swap card with him earlier this year and he became one of my favorites. I combined him with the Santa Accessories set and Birthday Accessories set. The sentiment is not from Doodle Pantry. It was a freebie and I can't find it again in my pathetic filing system. So if you know where this is from I'd love to give proper credit.

Day 14:
This is one of the things that I did this past weekend. I started on making holiday cookies. I needed cookies for a Girl Scout dinner this evening. This is one of the few images that I actually colored myself. These are the Baking Ants! The sentiment is from the same set. I added a couple of baking tools from my stash.

Day 15:
Here is another of my favorites. I added some Cheery Lynn trees and a fence to compliment the Caroling Friends!

Thanks for stopping today.I hope your week is off to a wonderful start.

Count Down Continues

Welcome to Sunday. Hope your weekend is going well. It's back to work tomorrow. I am so ready to retire. LOL! I didn't get as much time to craft as I would have liked. I did get a pair of slippers crocheted for a present so I am glad to have one down. Tomorrow night is the Girl Scout holiday party. I'll share some gifts later that I made for that event. But today I am continuing with my Count Down to  Christmas Doodle Pantry Style.

Day 6:
The image is from Holiday Sheep in Color. The sentiment is from Holly Stag. I love the embossed musical sheet.

Day 7:
The image and sentiment are from Blessed Christmas Card Kit in color. I really like the background paper on this one.

Day 8:
And here are those crazy ants! This image is from Candy Cane Ants. Love the Spellbinders used. The little peppermint piece is a perfect embellishment!

Day 9:
This gorgeous bird is from Blue Jay stamp set. I love Laurie's realistic images.

Day 10:

It's beginning to look a lot like a winter wonderland. The gorgeous image is from Winter Wishes. The sentiment is from Quirky Snowmen.

Hope you are enjoying the count down. Be back with more tomorrow.

Count Down to Christmas Doodle Pantry Style

Beautiful weather today here. Up in the 60s. We opened the door and windows for a while. I would never guess that I would be doing that in December. Tom didn't have a very good day today. Lots of pain from the surgery yesterday. I am hoping and praying that tomorrow will be better for him.
I had hinted several times about a big project I was working on. I had hoped to post it in November but that didn't happen. I love Advent calendars. I always thought they were fun to use with the kids to get ready for Christmas. So I thought I'd put together a type of count down to Christmas using Doodle Pantry Christmas images. So without further ado, here's the first 5 days of my Countdown to Christmas Doodle Pantry style.
Day1

Each image is mounted on an envelope so I can add a Bible verse or a little treat to each day. I used the color versions of the stamp set unless otherwise stated. The first day I used Color French Horn. Sentiment is from the same set. The tags with the numbers on are from an Advent sent that I bought at Hobby Lobby after Christmas one year.

Day 2

I used the set Holly Stag.  Added some embossing and ribbon.

Day 3:
Set used is called Snow Birdie. The mittens were taken off a Christmas package that I received last year.

Day 4:
This set is Christmas Birdie in Color. The sentiment is from the same set. It's difficult to see but under the tag is a paper pieced ribbon.

Day 5:
Holiday Ants Color is the set I used for Day 5. This is one of my favorites. I love the colorful embossed background. Look great in real life!

That's the first five days. Come back tomorrow to check out the next 5 days of the count down. Have a wonderful Sunday!
