Thank You's to Alzheimer's Caregivers

My second post for today is for a special friend. I've been a fan of Carolyn King for a long time and I am so fortunate that she's befriended me and visits my blog. I feel so honored  when she visits. Today she has posted a special project for Alzheimer's caregivers. Several years ago Carolyn's grandmother passed away from this terrible disease and since, Carolyn has drawn two stamp sets that the proceeds went to Alzheimer's research and in September 2008 and again this year she is sponsoring a call to thank Alzheimer's caregivers. All you need to do is make a thank you card and send it to an Alzheimer's caregiver. All the details are on Carolyn's blog. And as an incentive, Carolyn has enlisted a large number of companies and individuals who are giving gifts to a random winner. The gifts total over $1,000. One entry per person but you can make as many cards as you'd like. Here's my card.

My card is made with Clear Dollar Stamps: Loving Lamb and Diamond Circle Background. I used Spellbinder rectangle and scalloped rectangle Nestabilities. The image is colored with pencils and shaded with Bashful Blue dye ink. I used Outline Stickers to outline the background. The circles on the background are filled with pink self-adhesive rhinestones. My card will be sent to the address that Carolyn gives in her post. Please take a minute and read Carolyn's post and then take a minute to send a card.

Thanks for stopping for my second post today. This is a busy week for me but I'm hoping to make a few posts this week. I hope you have a wonderful week!

Christmas x 5

Happy Sunday afternoon to you! I've been working on this set of five Christmas cards for several weeks now. The cards are for the September challenge at Christmas Cards All Year 'Round. The challenge this month is to make 5 cards that are any shape but the regular 4 1/4 by 5 1/2. I had some long envelopes that had such pretty Christmas holly so I decided to make some cards to use those envelopes.

These cards showcase two new punches that I received for my birthday. The EK Success Trellis punch and the flower punch also from EK Success was teamed up with the Stampin' Up! 3 flowers punch. I used Red, Emerald and Eucalyptus Stickles to add the centers to the flowers. The sentiment is from a Gina K Christmas stamp set. I was really pleased with the way these turned out. Her's a closer look at the card.

You still have time to join in the Christmas card fun at Christmas Cards All Year 'Round challenge for September. Stay tuned. I have another post later today for a very special cause. You won't want to miss this one. Later gator!

Anniversary Wishes

Happy half way through the week! Today I have some exciting news. I've been chosen to join the design team at the Cuttlebug Spot! My very first assignment on a design team. I've been fortunate to be a guest designer for several blogs but this is really exciting for me. I start my term in October. You can see that my badge is proudly displayed on the top of my right column. Yeah! Woot!

Okay I'll get off my cloud and show you my card. My sister and brother-in-law's anniversary is coming up so I made them a card this evening. I was in there wedding as a bridesmaid when I was just 13 years old. Wish I had a pic to share. We wore green dresses with great big pink bows. Anyway, here's the card:

I used the sketch from Card Patterns.

Details:

Background paper: from Hobby Lobby
Embellishments: Spool o' Ribbon, self-adhesive rhinestones

Surprise Halloween Treat

Hello there! I'm enjoying getting a few projects done this week. And I have some great and exciting news but I have to keep it a secret for just a little more time. Stay tuned and I promise to let you know my secret.

Today I found a great tutorial for a fun Halloween treat holder. The tutorial is on the Create with Connie & Mary blog. You will love this little treat. I so had to make one tonight and I don;t think it will be my last one either. So here's my take on the tutorial.

I punched the moon from yellow card stock and sponged with So Saffron ink. I stamped and cut out the bats and added them to the moon. The pumpkin is a digital image from Digital Delights by Louby Loo. The image is stacked on the black card stock background. The holder is tied with Halloween ribbon from Michael's.

This is the inside of the treat holder. I haven't gotten the gum yet to add as the treat. The inside designer paper is from Hobby Lobby and the images are from a retired set from Stampin' Up!
Check out Connie's samples of the tutorial. They are totally cute!
I am entering this project into the challenge at Delightful Challenges: Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere! This was such fun! Thanks for stopping by today. Hope your week is going well! Take care!

Out of My Comfort Zone

Happy Monday evening! Tonight I have a card that really pulled me out of my comfort zone; a real challenge! I used the sketch challenge at Paper Makeup Stamps Blog.

I was intrigued by the sketch and I've never participated in a Paper Makeup challenge before. So with that in mind I combined it with the Joan's Garden challenge ( a real challenge in itself).

  • Color - Orange, Green and Blue
  • Embellishment - Printed Ribbon and something hanging
  • 3 different prints - can include ribbon print
  • Distress with ink
So with all those things in mind here's what I came up with:

Details:
Stamps: Paper Makeup Stamps (image and sentiment)
Background Paper: various
Cuttlebug Embossing Folder: Stars
Ribbon: Dashes, Dots & Checks and Gina K ribbon
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Stampin' Up! Pumpkin Pie

So what do you think about my "out of comfort zone" card? I think I have someone that I'd like to send it too. She's fabulous! Hope you like ti. Thanks for dropping by.

Favorite Fall Memory

This weekend Gina K is looking for her next guest designer and the challenge this month is to depict your favorite fall memory. This was an easy one for me. When my children were younger we used to go camping with my DH's parents on the Saturday before Halloween. We would camp at Spring Mill State Park and on that weekend they had special celebrations throughout the park and at the campgrounds. We'd stroll through the Pioneer Village and participate in decorating a scarecrow or carving a pumpkin. And at the campground, we'd go for a hayride and decorate our campsite. It was just great fun for all of us and we looked forward to it every year. So my card is centered around those fall memories.

This is a masculine card for my son. He's just landed a new job and I think he's very much a happy camper right now. I am hoping to remind him of great times in the past and wishes for continued good times in the future.
I used Theresa Momber's stamps from Happy Camper (the tent, trees and sentiment) and paired them with Carolyn King's Whimsical Autumn (the pumpkin). The gorgeous fall background paper is from the Paper Studio covering the basic card made with Gina K Pure Luxury white card stock. Definitely a CAS card.
Well, this is definitely my last entry for today. The Colts are beating the Giants so far but I have to go cheer on my team. Have a wonderful start to your week!

Hope it's a Hoot!

Happy Sunday to you all. We had a lovely day yesterday at our property at Baby Creek. The leaves are beginning to turn but it's so dry here. We need rain very badly.
My daughter asked me to make a birthday card for her boyfriend so I tried a masculine card today.

The lovely background paper is from The Paper Studio. The image and the sentiment are from Gina K's Owl Always Love You. The image was cut from Spellbinder's Oval Nestabilities. The sentiment was punched with an EK Success label punch. The card was made for the Clearly Inspired Challenge. The challenge is to use an owl or an owl habitat. This is a monthly challenge so you have plenty of time to check this one out.
Thanks for stopping by today. Hope you have a wonderful start to your week!

Cracked Glass Technique

Happy Wednesday and Happy Birthday to me! It's been a special day. Work was full of meetings today so I didn't get much done there. I had a special dinner with my dear husband Tom. And received two lovely presents: a light box and photo lamps from Tom and a welcome mat for our new property from my lovely daughter Tricia. And I received a bunch of great cards from crafting friends from across the U.S. and several different countries. How cool is that and how blessed I am. I hope you had a wonderful day too.
I have lots to learn about my new photo box so bear with me as I play with my new toy.

My card tonight is done with the cracked glass technique and is for the challenge at Just Us Girls. From the photo it's difficult to see the cracked glass but it really is cracked.

Details for the card:
Stamp: digital stamp ( I can't remember where I got this one, so if you know please let me know so I can give proper credit.)
Paper: My Minds Eye, orange card stock
Spellbinders Oval Nestabilities
Embellishments: Halloween ribbon from Michael's, black and white brads
Clear embossing powder
Punches: Stampin' Up! Flower punch

I really liked the way this one came out. There's still time to check out the JUGS challenge and the wonderful prize from Just Rite stamps. What a great birthday present that would be! Have a lovely rest of your week. I'm off to play with my new birthday goodies.

Birthday Hugs,
Donna

Fall Birthday

Back with post #2 today and the challenge from Joan's Garden. If you haven't read my earlier post, my computer has a virus and it's making posting tough to say the least. So I'm using my work computer and posting on my lunch hour. Sorry this will be quick. I have an interview in 15 minutes. Way to busy for a Monday.

This card is for the challenge at Joan's Garden. The challenge this week:
  • Color - Red, Brown and Green
  • Embellishment - Pearls and Trim - preferably lace
  • BONUS: If you use a Heartfelt Creation Stamp, your name will be entered twice. If you also use a Heartfelt Creation Die your name will be entered 3 times. If you don't have any, I can quickly send you one. But, as always you can use what you have.
Unfortunately I don;t have any Heartfelt Creation Stamps but my birthday is coming up and I may have to correct that. they are really neat stamps. Here's my card!

I used Carolyn King's Whimsical Autumn for the image and the sentiment is from Gina K's Inside and Out. I used lace and pearls for the embellishments.

Sorry this is so quick. We are interviewing for a new position and I have to scoot to get ready before the first applicant arrives. Maybe I just should have stayed in bed this morning. LOL!
Have a wonderful week! I'll be eback when I can get my computer to cooperate!

Hugs,
Donna

Make a Wish

..... I wish my computer didn't have a virus! Until my DH gets that squared away I might have a problem posting. I had my daughter email the pictures to my account and I'm adding these on my lunch hour. And today is such a busy day, too!

This card is for one of several challenges: the Paper Makeup Challenge. I used a set from Paper Makeup stamps and for the life of me I can't remember the name right now. (I'm just a bit frazzled today and don't have time to look it up.) It just the cutest set though! I love the little seed pods flying around. I used the Leafy Plant embossing folder in the background. I stamped the image in Momento Tuxedo Black first and then used my version of a Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp over again in three different colors. It's difficult to tell in the photo but it gave it a neat affect IRL. I'll have to try that technique again. Check out the challenge. You still have time!

The other challenges that this card is for:
I'm following up with another post. So stick around and read the next one too. LOL! Have a great Monday!

Christmas Tag Folder

Gooood ev-e-ning! (Shades of Alfred Hitchcock! Definitely showing my age here. LOL!) I have a fun project for you this evening. It was the challenge this week at Christmas Stampin' All Year Long.

Sorry about the photos. I had to take them this evening when the light wasn't very good.
This is the folder when it is closed:

And the three tags from each of the pockets:

Love the results and it was great fun to make. Check out the challenge and download the instructions for the tag folder. Maria Bell did a wonderful job on this project. Thanks, Maria!
Happy Friday to you all. Have a great weekend. I'll be off to help with a Girl Scout camp out. We haven't had rain for more than a month and of course rain is forecast this weekend since we are camping. You know, occasional showers: you've got the occasion, we've got the showers. As long as it's fun!

Halloween Fun!

Isn't this the cutest image? I just love the combination of this cat and pumpkin. I made this for a Halloween challenge at Delightful Sketches. I'm fairly sure this is a retired Digital Delights by Louby Loo digi stamp. I added the embossed skeletons at the bottom of the card and the Pumpkin Halloween ribbon. I layered the image with black and orange card stock, colored the image with Bic Mark-it markers and sponged the grass with Certainly Celery and the sky with Bashful Blue to make it look more like a scene. I used Rectangle Nestabilities and Scalloped Rectangle Nestabilities to cut the card stock. Hope you like my Halloween creation! Digital Delights by Louby Loo has an amazing new line of Halloween images. Stop by and check them out!
Oops! Almost forgot to show you the inside. The sentiment is by Stampin' Up! Haunting Halloween.

Have a wonderful Thursday. The weeks coming to a close very quickly. Take care.

Birthday Flowers

Doesn't this feel like Monday to you? At least those of you who are int the U.S.? Yesterday was Labor Day and I did have to work for part of the day. The rest of the day we visited our Baby Creek property. The 60th wedding anniversary party for Tom's parents was a great success. Great fun and wonderful to see family that we usually only see at Christmas. But it was great to go to baby Creek too and visit our little hummingbird friends.

So tonight I have a card that I made for two challenges: Joan's Garden and Flourishes Birthday challenge.

For Flourishes challenge you needed to make a birthday card to celebrate a belated birthday for Flourishes. For Joan's Garden's challenge you needed to use a deep purple color, a Spellbinder's pendant or another punch that makes a design, a cut out flower that you color, and a punched border. Whew! Here's the details of my card:
Stamps: Flourishes Calendar Set #3 October Chrysanthemum;sentiment from Gina K Inside and Out
Spellbinders: Lattice Pendant and Scalloped Nestabilities
Punch: Martha Stewart Flower Border punch
Embellishments: Grape Stickles, Purple ribbon

I'm so glad to be back to creating this week. Thanks for stopping and I hope you enjoyed my project. Hope that the rest of your week is spectacular! Come back soon.

It's a Halloween Bear Pumpkin?

Good evening! We're more than half way through the week. I'm so glad. Tonight I baked 6 cakes for the 60th wedding anniversary. Between Thursday and Friday my daughter, Tricia, will be frosting and decorating the cakes. She just finished a Wilton cake course so she needs the practice. LOL! I'll definitely take pictures. My DH put together a play list on my computer for the music for the party. So we're slowly getting our acts together. After I baked cakes I had time to whip up this card.

The card is for a challenge at Scrap-Creations. The theme this week is Halloween. Here's the details:
Stamp: retired digital stamp from Digital Delights by Louby Loo
Background Paper: Basic Grey Max & Whiskers
Ribbon: Web ribbon from Michaels
Punch: Stampin' Up! slit punch

Have a wonderful rest of the week. I just might surprise myself and find time for another card tomorrow night! Take care!
