Congratualtions and The Graduate

I am hurrying to make cards this week. Way too much going on here and unfortunately it all came down on the same week. Yesterday in the mail we received an invitation for an Eagle Ceremony for this Sunday. With a graduation and wedding on Saturday I don't think we're going to make the ceremony so I have to send a card.

Nothing really difficult. The Eagle is from a Stampin' Up! set and the background paper is from Hobby Lobby. It is a tri-shutter card so here's what the inside looks like.

It's not the best picture but it will have to do for tonight. It's getting past my bedtime.

The other card that I made tonight was a graduation card. Of course Dan's graduation from college is this Saturday and both high schools in town are also graduating on Saturday. So we've been invited to several graduation parties. Most of them we are unable to attend. But I'm sending cards. I made one card last night and forgot to photograph it. Bad me! It was sealed int he envelope before I knew it. But I did make another card this evening. The image is a free digital stamp from Dustin Pike's blog. Dustin gives away a free digital stamp every Wednesday and sometimes at other times of the week too. I love his images. Isn't this a fun card?

Dustin also has a girl graduate in the download. I have a graduation party next week for my best friend's daughter. I will be using the girl graduate image for her card. But fortunately I can leave that one for next week. I colored the grad with Kooh-hi-Nor Woodless Pencils and Odorless Mineral Spirits. Thanks to Val in British Columbia who taught me how to do that correctly while I was visiting her a few weeks ago. You're the best, Val!

This may be my last post for this week. The graduation is coming up quick. We have to drive to Terre Haute on Friday for a reception and then back again early Saturday morning for the graduation. So I'll be busy the rest of this week. Thanks for stopping by and come back next week. I hope to have some new projects. Have a wonderful rest of your week.

Matching Graduation Thank Yous

Happy Memorial Day to you all and thank you to all the men and women who so proudly serve or have served our country. I so appreciate the sacrifices they make to keep our country free. I hope you in some way remembered them today too.
My card today is the thank you notes that my son will be sending for graduation gifts.

If you haven't been to my blog before you can check out the original invitation here. I tried to model the thank yous after the original invitation. The insides are blank so he has plenty of space to write his personal notes. Graduation is this coming Saturday. It will be a busy week. Thanks for stopping by today. I hope to be back sometime this week with some new things to share. Hope you have a wonderful week.

Challenged Out of my Comfort Zone

Usually I don't like to be out of my comfort zone (does anyone?) but this card was lots of fun and a real learning experience for me. So thank to Sweet 'n Sassy Sketch Challenge #4 I came up with this card using the sketch.

And besides using the sketch, the card needed to be masculine. I love doing sketch challenges so that part wasn't too difficult, but I seldom do cards with scenes. So that was the challenge for me. This is also one of the first cards I've colored using Odorless Mineral Spirits and I was very happy with the results. The boat is pop-dotted off the card.

Card recipe:

Stamp set used: Sweet 'n Sassy Dino-Mite; Gina K Guiding Light

Colored with Koh-hi-nor Woodless Pencils and Odorless Mineral Spirits

Background Paper: Long rectangle is cut from a tissue box; black, white, and kraft cardstock; other patterned paper from Paper Studio

And this is the inside of the card. The verse says:

A father is neither an anchor to hold us back,

not a sail to take us there,

but a guiding light whose love shows us the way.

I hope my FIL will like it! Thanks for dropping by. Happy Monday and have a wonderful rest of the week!

Birthday Cards for the Guys in my Life

I haven't been posting much this week but I have been working on things. Two of the guys in my family had birthdays so that was my focus this week.

This is the card I sent my brother. The cupcake is a digi stamp from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps. The Birthday Wishes is from a Stampin' Up! set I don't remember. It's really a pretty simple card because I was under a time constraint on this one.

The second card is also pretty simple. I used a new stamp set from Gina K called Guiding Light. I just love lighthouses and I think this set will become one of my absolute favorites. I just love the chain borders. The Happy Birthday sentiment is a random stamp from the dollar store, I think; and the "... and many more" is from another Stampin' Up! set that I can't remember the name of right now. This card is for my SIL's significant other.

I hope you've had a wonderful weekend! It's almost over already and that means back to work tomorrow. Hope you all have a great week to come and thanks for stopping by.

There's No Place Like Home

My DH and I had such a wonderful time in Vancouver and I hope to show you some pictures really soon, as soon as I can get DH to transfer the pictures from his laptop to my computer. But in the meantime, I had to whip together a Mother's Day card for my MIL. Oops I left town and forgot that the day after we returned would be Mother's Day. Am I bad or what?

So here's the card I whipped up today and then walked to the mailbox to mail. I definitely needed the exercise after spending all day yesterday on airplanes and in airports. The card design is from the sketch challenge this week on Stamp TV. My MIL loves the color purple so I didn't have a difficult time picking out the color. The image is from a Stampin' Up! set and the sentiment is from A Year of Flowers from Gina K. Thanks for stopping by today. I'm so glad to be back home... there's nothing like your own bed and you get really tired of eating in restaurants. My DH is grilling for dinner tonight and unfortunately it's back to work tomorrow. Here's wishing all of you a Happy Mother's Day or just a wonderful Sunday depending on where you live. I'll be back with more cards this week and pictures from our trip!

Leavin' on a Jet Plane

Tomorrow my DH and I are flying to Vancouver. He's attending a conference there and I'm going to relax and meet an Internet stamping friend, Valerie. I'm so excited to meet face-to-face. The Internet is a wonderful thing and I've "met" so many talented and generous people. It's not very often that you get to meet in person. Did I say I was excited? So before I leave I thought I'd give you another creation to look at while I'm gone.

This was a sketch challenge for Stamp TV. If you haven't been there or just not lately, you need to check out Gina's latest video for making gift. She shows you how easy it is to make beautiful coaster sets and then a box to give them. But I digress...
The stamp set is from Sweet 'n Sassy called Chocoholic. And yes, chocolate is a food group... at least for me it is.
I'm hoping to check in every once in a while this week. I'll try to show you pics of Vancouver since I probably won't be creating very much. Val, I'm on my way!!
Thanks for stopping by... Have a wonderful weekend!

Donna
