Using a Scalloped Circle Punch or Die Cut to Make a Cloudy Background

Happy Wednesday! Today I have a card at Catch the Bug blog. My tutorial will be showing you how to use a scalloped punch or die cut to create a cloudy background for a card. Here's what you'll need.

I used Salty Ocean distress ink, a Tim Holtz ink pad and handle, a base card, and a punch out from a Stampin' Up! scalloped circle punch. You could also try a scalloped circle die cut if you don't have a punch.

I usually start at one corner and hold the scalloped punch down with my fingers. I start the ink off the card stock and ink around the scalloped punch.

Continue to move the scalloped punch around the area and add ink until you like the results. I usually mask off the bottom of the card so that the blue doesn't go too far to the bottom of the card. In this case I used an MFT stitched basics edge 2 die for the mask.

I continue to move the scalloped punch around, adding ink until I like the pattern of clouds that I've created. Depending on what kind of clouds you want (rain, light and puffy, etc.) you might change out ink colors or the intensity of the colors that you are using.
I mask off the top section to ink the bottom section using Mowed Lawn distress ink. And then I finished my card using Bugaboo's Jesse Boy Bear (currently the freebie of the week until Friday).

To finish off the card I used Marianne Designs Fence and Bird die. I doodled on the bird to give him a litte definition. My bear is colored with Spectrum Noir markers. The sentiment is from Inktegrity (has become a closed blog) and die cut with a Quickcutz tag die. I inked the inside of the tag with Salty Ocean distress ink to match the clouds. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial for using a scalloped circle punch to make a cloudy background.
I am entering these challenges:
Have a wonderful day!
