Day Camp Craft Project

We interrupt my one sheet wonder cards for something a little different. I can hardly believe that day camp is only a few weeks away and I am deeply entrenched in getting ready. This Saturday (less than 2 days away!) is the training for all the volunteers and I need everything ready to do a show and tell. Yikes! So tonight I thought I would share our main craft for Monday and Tuesday during camp. Each girl will be making their own envelope scrapbook for the week. They will get to choose three envelopes (all donated by a lovely lady who stocks cards for grocery stores, drug stores, etc.) in whatever colors they'd  like. I chose 3 of the same color (off white) envelopes for my scrapbook and I adhered two flaps to the front of another envelope with school glue and glue sticks.

So they look like this with 3 pockets on the inside. Then I decorated the front with wall paper. If you were around last year you might remember we used wall paper books to make sit upons. Sherwin Williams was nice enough to give us a bunch of wallpaper sample books and of course we had lots left over. So I cut the wall paper to cover the fronts of the envelopes.

Since I was going to use the owl I picked out 3 different wood-grain sheets. I just really liked that look with the owl. The owl is a Doodle Pantry image and I colored him with crayons. The girls will be using crayons or markers. I added some rick rack to tie the booklet closed (glued under the wall paper). We have tons of donated ribbon and ric rac to use for this.  So here's the finished product.

The girls have 40 minutes to complete each activity so if they have extra time they can decorate a bit more. I left the inside plain because later in the week we have a naturalist that will be doing animal tracks with the girls. She will be bringing track stamps that the girls will be able to decorate the inside of their scrapbooks with the animal tracks. And if you can't read the little sticker it says "Girl Scout Critter Camp". That's our theme and each unit will be picking an animal for the week. I'm going to find a picture of their animal so that each unit's scrapbooks will be different. So there is our first big craft. I am excited about this one because I hope it will be something they keep as a remembrance. We take each units picture and the girls each get a copy. Something to add to their scrapbook. And I am sure they will collect more things as the week progresses. I'm going to enter this into the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge. The challenge this week is called "Into the Woods."  Perfect for camp!

Thanks for stopping by! Here's hoping that your Friday is super and then make it a wonderful weekend!

Lovely Weekend

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Although Saturday and Sunday were cool and rainy, Monday was a gorgeous day. We spent the weekend with family out at Baby Creek. On Sunday we had all our kids home with us and it was great! We aren't together very often so it's always special when we can get everyone together. We had Tom's parents out also. Just a really nice weekend. Here's a picture that we took of the kids. Kids, yeah right!

Last week OWH had a tutorial for a One Sheet Wonder. So I thought I would give it a try. So out of one 12x12 sheet and 2 contrasting 8 1/2 x 11 sheets I made 8 cards. Here is one of the cards.

The gorgeous Buttercups are by Doodle Pantry. The patterned paper is my 12x12 sheet that I had from Stampin' Up! I added a scrap of ribbon from my scrap pile. And the match red card stock for the background. The sentiment is from Simon Says as is the die cut banner that I got with the $50 I won in the Simon Says blog hop. I had such a fun time shopping with my free money!

More Get Well

Good evening! We are more than halfway through the week approaching the weekend. I am not sure what is happening to people in my life but things are definitely falling apart. My card tonight is for one of the guys I work with who is having surgery on Friday. So I made this card for him to wish him good luck and give him a hard time! LOL!

The image on my card and the sentiment inside were both freebies from Digi Blessings. I thought the mouse and bear were so cute together. I used a sketch that I saw on a one sheet wonder page. And I added twine and a button for embellishments. Pretty simple. The sentiment on the inside reads:
Don't worry about your operation unless,
of course, your doctor utters
that single dreaded word
we're all afraid of....
OOPS!
I do think he will get a kick out of the card. And of course I wish him the best of luck with his surgery and he'll be in my thoughts and prayers for sure.

I am entering these challenges:
That;s it for tonight. We are expecting storms tomorrow. The top of one of our trees came off in the last storm. Barely missed the house. We are so blessed. Our hearts and prayers go out to Oklahoma and all those who lost loved ones and possessions. Have a super Thursday and thanks for stopping by!

Busy Time of Year

Forgive my absence. This has got to be one of my busiest times of the year as I get ready for Girl Scout Day Camp. I am the volunteer program director. Our camp this year is from June 17th -21st. So from now till then crafting time will be kind of scarce. I didn't get any personal crafting done over the weekend. I did get a couple of day camp crafts done and I'll share those a little later. But tonight I had to make a couple of get well cards. Seems like lots of people are getting sick or having accidents and the only get well cards I have is "Heard you Caught a Bug." Not very helpful in this situation. So I made 2 quick cards tonight.

I used the Try Stampin' on Tuesday challenge sketch for this card. I'd been thinking about this sketch all week and really wanted to try it. It turned out to be quite the challenge. I didn't quite get things lined up perfectly but the sea rolls in waves, right? I used the D'vine Swirls embossing folder. The whale is from Stampin' Up! and I masked the sentiment that was underneath the image and then used a larger sentiment that was computer generated.
I am entering this card in:
Another get well card:
The image is from Just Inklined and I used the pre-colored image. The sentiment is from my stash. I used washi tape for the bottom stripes and added a couple small clothespins to hole the sentiment. Easy Peasy but I thought kind of cute! I used the Outlawz Wednesday sketch for this card.

That's it for me tonight. I have to scoot and get my laundry done before I head for bed. Hope your week is off to a positive start!

Grow Where You are Planted

I keep thinking this is Thursday but it really is only Wednesday. Geesh! Wishing my life away or another senior moment (the more likely of the two!)

I didn't just make tonight's project all in one night or even all in one weekend. I've been working on these for quite some time. Tomorrow night is the annual Girl Scout Recognition Dinner and I usually try to make something for each of the leaders that comes to the dinner. So this year I went with a garden theme. I bought little flower pots; added a bulb in each pot and then decorated an outside wrapper that kind of gives you an idea of what will happen when you actually plant the bulb.

I made 60 of these so it did take me a while. I had them all packed up before I realized that I hadn't taken a picture so I only unpacked one box; so you won't see all 60 of them.

I used a two-step Spellbinder's set that I found at Micheal's one day quite by accident in the clearance bin. I have never seen these sets before. They have stamps and then dies that cut around the images. And the price was marked at 1 cent. No lie! So I took them to the register and the girl actually rang them up for 1 cent. I couldn't believe it. I was in shock. But that 1 cent came in handy for this project. The flourish stems are from a totally different set.

And on the back of each I added a little thank you message to each leader. You can see the scalloped edge better in this picture. I used a variety of border punches; mostly Martha Stewart and EK Success.
Well, now I have to load everything up for the dinner and go make my lemon bars. It's a pitch-in dinner. So I hope you like my little gifts!

It's a Set and Match

Howdy! We had a beautiful day today. I think the temperature got to 80 degrees with a nice breeze. The sun was shining for a change. We went right from winter to summer in mid May. Mother Nature is surely confused this year.

Over the weekend I thought I would work on the Friday Mashup challenge. They posted a tutorial for a way to make 4 very easy backgrounds. So you could either create a project using the sketch, or create a set of cards, or you could mash it up and create a set of cards using the sketch. So that's what I did. I picked 4 scraps of paper from my paper bin that were pretty good sized scraps and made them into 4 backgrounds using the tutorial. And then I created cards.

This is the only card I got done on the weekend. This is Bugaboo's Gus. I just love these older folks and their cute sayings. This card is for my older brother's birthday. So tonight I finished the other cards that I started to finish my set.

I used Gus again. This time for my brother-in-laws birthday. The other two cards are also Bugaboo images and birthday cards. I love how colorful these are and they all turned out nicely!

Hope your week is going well. Not sure how much more crafting I will get in until the weekend. The rest of the week is very busy! Have a great rest of your week!

Saying Hello

Happy Monday and happy new week! My new job makes my days go so fast. I do love that. Super busy! If I can't be home crafting, I do like my days to go fast! My card tonight is one that I really like!

The image is a digital image from Doodle Pantry. This is the pre-colored image from the set called Pelican Dreams Color plus. The sentiment is from the same set. The swirly background paper is actually a recycled Kleenex box. My DH thinks it's hilarious that I buy my tissues for the colors of the box. I backed the recycled paper with gray card stock and it's all layered on blue cards stock. I used Spellbinder's dies to cut the image and sentiment.

Happy Saturday

Happy Saturday! The weatherman wasn't very good at predicting the weather today but that's really no surprise. But the good news is that I am posting from Baby Creek! My DH figured out how to make his phone a hot spot so I can get Internet out here where previously we couldn't. So I'll be able to share more often on the weekend as long as the connection works.

I made this card for a college student who I worked with for 4 years at IU. I helped hire her and she's been the best! She graduated last week and we won;t be co-workers anymore but she has a job and is starting a new life.... and taking flight. I thought this card would be appropriate. The butterflies, all of them, are from a stamp set from Penny Black called Free Flight. I stamped the solid butterflies in various colors and the outline butterfly I stamped with Memento ink and colored with colored pencils. The background paper is from Simon Says kit, I think it was April's kit. I layered the image and sentiment. I was really pleased with how this one turned out.

Final Vacation Day and Some Craftiness

Lots of heavy storms rolling through this evening. Hopefully I'll get this post in. Our final day in Hawaii was a quick one. We needed to be at the airport by 3pm. But we stopped a few more places before heading for the airport.
But before we left the condo we had a few pieces of bread left that we threw to the birds. And a few nene (Hawaiian Geese) came to the area. These two reminded me of book ends. They stood very still on one foot for a very long time.

We drove from the northern shores of Princeville toward Lihue and the airport. And we stopped at Lydgate Park. Gorgeous beach and a great place for families to enjoy almost any kind of outdoor activities. There were wonderful playgrounds, lots of beach, and camping and picnic areas.

The reef made this an ideal swimming beach. You can see the waves out further but they never reach the shore on this beach. We had lunch at a little local place called Danni's and then we headed for the airport. Our first flight was from Lihue to Honolulu. We flew on a little prop plane.

We had a several hour lay over in Honolulu before an eight-hour flight to Chicago and another little puddle jumper to Indianapolis. So I hope you enjoyed our pictures of Hawaii.
Just in case you think I had two weeks without crafting that's not exactly true. I took 2 skeins of yarn with me and crocheted 8 7inch by 9 inch rectangles. Our neighborhood is going together to make an afghan for Warm Up America. To make the afghan we need 49 rectangles so I did 8 of them for the afghan. before we left I cut up an old book pages into rectangles. Then I folded the paper and nested the pieces together to make these baskets.

During the trip I actually made the strips and after I returned home I made the strips into rings and then joined the rings into the baskets. The bottoms are made from cardstock. After I fill these they'll go as gifts for the service unit managers next week at our Girl Scout recognition dinner.
And here's a card I made this week for my mother-in-law for Mother's Day.

The image is from Doodle Pantry called Jacaranda. This is part of the Doodle Pantry May release. I used the pre-colored image. The sentiment is from TLC Creations. The embossing folder is Flower Garden. I added 3 strips of purple card stock and a strip of white satin ribbon. I used an OWH sketch.

Happy Sunday

It has been raining non-stop all day here so I hope your Sunday weather has more sunshine in it! I don't mind the rain but I prefer it during the week when I am stuck at work than on the weekend when I could be outside. The good news: the temperatures are warmer (and at least it isn't snow!) There is always a bright spot, right? Just a side note: I was talking to my DH this morning about the rain and he said "April showers bring May flowers." Then he realized that it was already May and he said, "And Mayflowers bring furniture." (Mayflower is a moving company in our area). I thought that was very clever!

I had a chance to play this afternoon and made a card to brighten up the dreary weather. I was part of an April swap at Making Greeting Cards (A Yahoo group I belong to) and my partner got my swap materials to me kind of late. But no problems! You were to send your swap partner materials to make a card and then see what your partner could come up with. My partner, Chris from Hawaii, (no, I didn't get to meet her while I was there. She was on a different island. Bummer!) sent me all kinds of things; and I probably have enough stuff to make dozens of cards from what she sent. But this is the card I came up with today.

Chris sent me these wonderful vellum sentiments! How did she know that I love sentiments! And there were 4 pages of sentiments so I had a really difficult time deciding which to use. She also sent me this stamp set with a trio of flowers and a nice sentiment. The stamp set is from 'ditto' and seems to be part of Hampton Arts but I couldn't find a name of the set on the packaging. The paper is my own; she didn't send paper. I used a scrap of Doodle Pantry paper because I love the bright colors. I embossed the strip with the Victoria embossing folder. Then I stamped the flowers to try to match the paper and cut and embossed them with Spellbinders circles. I added the sentiment with two brads. I used sketch #3 from Operation Write Home which is where this card will be heading! Thanks Chris for all the goodies. I know there will be many more cards using all the great stuff you sent!

I am entering this card into these challenges:

Thanks for stopping by today. I have one more day to add from my Hawaii trip and intend to get to that this week. Not sure it will be today but maybe. Make it a super fantastic week and stop by again soon!

My Favorite Day in Kauai

Our ninth day in Hawaii was my absolute favorite. We had an appointment to be part of a guided tour in the afternoon. In the morning we did some sight seeing on the east side of the island.

This was our first look at the Wailua River from a roadside scenic view stop. After leaving Indiana behind with it's winter weather, the sight of green grass and trees was wonderful!

This is Opaeka'a Falls. It was kind of cloudy that day so not such a bright picture.

Here we are with the falls in the background.

And what would the day without a beach. I think this was the Kapa'a Beach Park.
And then we got to go on our kayaking trip.

We were in a group of twelve in 6 double kayaks. We changed into our swim suits but we didn't tip the kayak on the whole trip.

We paddled up the river to a spot where we pulled our kayaks up and tied them together. After a snack we started hiking.

We crossed this stream several times. The current was pretty swift and there were ropes in spots to help you stay on your feet.

Our guide gave us all kinds of fun anecdotes about flora and fauna. Did you know that there are 65,000 residents on the island if Kauai but there are 350,000 wild pigs on the island. We never saw any of them. The hike was well worth it! This was at the end of it.

This is Secret Falls. It's over 100 feet to the top. And we got to swim under it. The water was very cold and I almost chickened out. But I got to thinking that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'd never be able to do this again. So out we went.

Our guide had our camera and the sign to take our picture was to put our hands in the air.

What an amazing experience! Very fun!

One last look before we started the hike back. We hiked bike through some of the stream that we crossed several times.

This part of the island had been inhabited by the ancient Hawaiians so there were areas where rocks had been placed for tiers and gardens.

And the way back on the river. We got back from the trip around 6 pm so we drove back north to Hanalei Bay and had dinner. It rained most of the evening so no sunsets this night. Thanks for stopping by to see my favorite part of my trip!

Lady Anne's Last Post

Tonight I have a card that I made as a design team member for Lady Anne's Stamp Challenge. This is my last challenge with Lady Anne. I had to make the difficult decision to leave that team. I so enjoyed my time with them but my new job has taken up more time and Girl Scout Day camp is coming up soon and something had to give. I know that I will still be participating in Lady Anne's challenge as time allows. The sponsor for this month's anything goes challenge is Red Rubber Designs. We were given some absolutely gorgeous stamps to work with. Here's my card.

This set is called Milk Can Flowers. The set comes with a variety of flowers to add to the top of the can. The can and flowers are colored with Copics. The sentiment is included with the set. I used scraps of background paper. I embossed the purple with the Garden Flowers embossing folder and punched the sentiment with an ek Success label punch. It's hard to see but there is ribbon that runs behind the image. I added some purple Stickles in the center of the embossed flowers.
I hope you will join with lady Anne's stamp challenge this month. How much easier can you get than "anything goes!" Thanks Lady Anne for having me on the team and best of luck with your challenge blog!

Doodle Pantry Release Day

Can you believe it's May already. Where did April go? But it's one of my favorite days of the month! The first is a Doodle Pantry release. And Laurie has an amazing release for May. I chose to work with Handy Ants. It reminded me so much of my DH who is definitely a very handy guy. So this will be his Father's Day card.

I used the pre-colored image from the set but it also has an outline image. The background paper and sentiment is also from the set. I added the black ribbon as an accent and had it go off the side of the card as a banner. You really need to see the rest of the new releases and check out the amazing design team projects!
At noon today check out the Doodle Pantry blog for the May challenge. Everyone wins! If you participate in the challenge you get a free set! Check out Fruitful Star! And you can get another free set with purchase. Check out Pearfect Wormy. I know you will find something amazing in this new release!
