Purple, Anyone?

The Stamper's Dream Dreamy Challenge this month is to make a monochromatic card. The example was all green, a St. Patrick's Day card. How about that! But so many of my friends and family seem to fancy purple so I went in that direction.

I used three different colors of purple card stock. I punched the corners with a retired SU! punch and then added the little purple flower brads. The flower stamp is from Inkadinkadoo and the "friends" stamp is from SU!. The ribbon came from the $1 Spot at Target. I pop dotted the ovals from the card.
I'm using the same card to enter the sketch challenge for the Sweet 'n Sassy release party last evening. It was fun and my first release party with Sweet 'n Sassy.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Thanks for stopping by. Until next time...

CBCC Color Challenge #27

I was encouraged by several people to take a stab at Courtney's Color Challenge this week. I think this was a difficult color combo: tempting turquoise, close to cocoa and very vanilla I wanted to use a Sweet 'n Sassy set and since I only have one, well you get the picture.

I really like this dinosaur image so I used him as my focal point. I used the rocks in the set as embellishments. You may not be able to see it in the picture but the rocks on the side are pop-dotted off the card. I'm not sure I'm crazy about the finished product. I'll have to think about how to improve this one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for stopping by today. Until next time...

P.S. Next Monday I am taking a class at the library about blogging so I hope to make some improvements after the class. Stay tuned!

My First Blog Award and My Picks!

I got a huge surprise yesterday. One of my dear friends gave me a blog award, my first ever. Thank you so much, Angie!

That's kind of exciting! So I guess the thing to do is pass it on. I can pick five other people to pass this award to, so here are some of my favorite blogs to visit. I hope you will check out their blogs and find out why I picked them.

  • Lorie's blog Live-Love-Laugh-Create: I "met" Lorie when I won blog candy from her blog. She has great ideas and introduced me to Sweet 'n Sassy stamps!

  • Dani's blog Dani Gets Crafty: Dani found me somehow. She's also involved with the Sweet 'n Sassy Design Team and has lots of neat ideas!

  • Lora's blog Lora's Card: I met Lora through a yahoo group. She does lovely work and you'll enjoy her site.

  • Jessica's blog Hectic Household: Jess actually lives in the same town as I do and we see each other about once a month. She isn't necessarily a card maker but she sure is crafty. And with all her adventures with her many children her blog is very entertaining! Love you Jess!

  • and last but not least Lindsay's blog Designs by Lindsay: She has some wonderful projects and cards at her blog. Check them out!

So I haven't had a lot of time this week to create. I've been very busy at work and my DH has been back and forth to the hospital with a Mersa infection. So there's never a dull moment around here lately. My middle son came home on break from college, so we have extra in the house.

But I did get a chance this week to make some baby boy cards. One of my coworkers is due in a few weeks with a boy. So I made these cards to have on hand. I knew I would need at least one of them soon. I just love these little onsies. They make such cute cards.

Tomorrow is Friday and I'm looking forward to the weekend. Hope to get lots of time to work on cards and other projects. Thanks for stopping in and checking up on me. Until next time....

Courtney’s Bubble Wrap Challenge

Earlier this week I tried a bubble wrap challenge from Courtney.

Stamping with bubble wrap takes some practice. I wasn’t satisfied with my first card so I found a better piece of bubble wrap and tried again. The result was this background that I thought looked so much like Easter eggs that I decided to center the card around them. So here’s my latest try at bubbly wrap stamping. I like this one much better!

I liked the sketch that I used so much that I made another card with the same sketch. I thought the colors said Easter so it too wound up being an Easter card too. The only thing I don’t like about this sketch is that I have to make envelopes to go with the cards. It really isn’t that difficult but the time that I have I’d rather be making cards than envelopes.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and looking forward to a good week. It should be another very busy week at work so I’m hoping that everything goes smoothly. Thanks for stopping by. Until next time….

Beate's Challenge

This card was created for Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge #69. Beate took the challenge from page 98 of the Fall/Winter Stampin' Up! Catalog. My card features one of the sentiments from Melanie Muechinger's Say it With Flowers. I also used the Stampin' Up! scallop punch to add interest to the edge. The embellishments are store bought though. The inside of the card has a birthday wish. I was very pleased with this card. Hope you like it too.

Thanks for stopping today. Hope you are all safe and warm. Until next time....

CBCC Challenge and more

This week the Created by Courtney Challenge was to use bubble wrap stamping to create a card. I used bubble wrap to stamp the background of this card in Certainly Celery. The paper flower is an embellishment I learned to make from the new class A Year in Cards at Two Peas in a Bucket . The actual design of the card is one of the sketches from the class.

Here's the inside of the card. It sports a pocket made with the patterned paper that I made the flower out of. The card inside is a thank you for a friend. I need a little more practice on the flowers but I do think they turned out cute for a homemade embellishment.

On another note, I shared a picture of my "baby" last week but he sent me more pictures that were taken when he played for a concert at Trine University. My little boy is all grown up and looking good. I'm I biased? Nope, just telling the truth.
I'm excited that tomorrow is Friday. It's been a busy week at work. At least it makes the time go faster. Thanks for stopping by.

Eagle Scout

Coming up shortly we are invited to an Eagle Scout ceremony. We've been to many such ceremonies. My husband and both my boys are Eagle Scouts. But I like to make cards that fit the occasion and it seems every time I have an occasion I run into an idea that gives me inspiration. As I was blog surfing I ran into this Eagle Scout card made by Lorie. And so I took her idea and made my own.

I hope Tim, the newest Eagle Scout in our troop likes it!
Card Recipe:
Stamps: Wildlife Reserve and Scribbles (both from Stampin' Up!)
Blue and white card stock
Colored with Koh-i-noor Woodless Pencils

Desk Pad

Happy Sunday to you. I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day. I have a quick little project to share with you today. This colorful desk pad is made from a plastic photo frame. I used cardstock (3.5 x 5 inches)and printed paper to decorate the background which is placed inside the photo frame. Then you use a decorative pad of paper to stick to the front of the frame. Very easy project that brightens up the desk area.

Here's a side view of the picture frame. I lay it down rather then stand it up straight like you would if you were displaying a picture. I found the frames and the decorative paper pads at the Dollar Store so these are very inexpensive to make. I used a retired Stampin' Up! set for the bottom (Two-Step Stamping Border Builders). This was just a fun and very easy project and a nice little gift to give someone. I did see this idea on some one's blog and I wasn't able to find it again. If I do I'll amend this post or if it's your idea please let me know so I can give you credit.
I wish you all a great start to your week and thanks for stopping by. Until next time...

Bad Me! and Things to Share

I've been really bad about posting this last week or two. It isn't that I haven't been creating anything, it's just finding the time to post after I create. Okay enough excuses! Here's what I've been up to.

I didn't get much accomplished last weekend because I went to visit my "baby" at college. My baby is bigger than I am. Here he is studying differential equations with his Dad (not in picture). It was nice to see him since we hadn't gotten together since he returned to school after Christmas. But before I left for the visit I worked on some Valentine gifties for my office mates.

I made the boxes with the heart-shaped acetate windows and filled them with candy. So tomorrow they'll all have a surprise on their desk when they arrive. I'm usually the first one at work. Everyone loves chocolate and it makes Fridays much easier to get through. LOL! I need to make more of these boxes so I'm going to make a tutorial when I do. It will be my first tutorial!

Of course there have been some Valentines along the way. I'll share a couple with you now. This Valentine was made with the stamp set Dino-Mite that I won as blog candy at the beginning of January. That dinosaur is so cute! I think I need to practice my faux stitching a little more.

This Valentine I sent to my husband's parents in Florida. They stay for the winter in Big Pine Key. I embossed the hearts and used purple ink but the clear embossing powder must not have been clear because the purple color didn't show through. I really liked the effect though anyway. I made it from a sketch challenge on Two Peas in a Bucket.
Thanks for stopping by. I'll try to be better about posting more often (one of my new year's resolution!). But I've already posted more this year than all of last year. More excuses? Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Until next time...

A Year in Cards

Recently I found a site called Two Peas in a Bucket and they are offering several year long classes on different topics. The one that interested me the most was A Year in Cards. The class is posted on the 15th of each month and then you work on your "homework" throughout the month. It's designed to increase your stash of cards so you're ready for any possible event. The class that was posted on January 15th was about the basics; what you need to make cards successfully. Kristina, the teacher, gave us three sketches to work with and you upload your final projects for a chance to win prizes. I had great fun working with the sketches and made 4 cards. Here are my cards from the sketches from the first class.

I'm not sure why the two at the bottom are showing up so big. They are really only 3x3. I've never made that size before and now I have to make envelopes to fit them because of course I don't have any that size. But they are so cute. My favorite card is the Unforgettable elephant. I think he turned out so cute!

So if you like to create cards from sketches, would like to take a free online class about card-making, or want a chance to win some prizes. Check out Two Peas in a Bucket. The link above goes right to A Year in Cards class, but you might want to check out their other classes, too. They all look like fun and they each start at a different time of the month so you could do them all if you wanted to. Thanks for stopping in to check up on me. Take care!
