Day 1 in Waimea Canyon

Greetings from Waimea, Kauai! Tom and I arrived safely and have had Internet sporadically so I am hoping to make a quick post with some pictures of our first day here on this lovely island. A\For the first half of our trip we are staying in a small cottage, close enough to the beach that you are lulled to sleep by the slap of the waves on the shore. Very relaxing! The plane ride over though is very long and we were happy to have our feet back on the ground.
So on Day 1 we toured the Waimea Canyon area and Kokee State Park. Here is a picture of the Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.

We stopped at the canyon in both the early morning and again in the afternoon. This was an afternoon shot. IN the morning there were two Hawaiian gentlemen there in native dress. Tom got a picture of one on his phone but we haven't download those yet. The canyon is beautiful will all kinds of colors mixed together.

At sunset we walked down to the beach near our cottage. Here's a picture of the sunset. Just a little cloudy.

The picture doesn't really show the myriad of colors that were there. And to finish off for this post, here is one of the many local inhabitants of the island.

Chickens and roosters run wild here. One tried to get into our cottage last evening. They are amusing to watch and they seem to congregate around Tom yesterday so I was kidding him about his harem. Have a super day. Hopefully I'll be able to post more pictures later! Aloha!
