Bugaboo Christmas Ornament

Today I have a tutorial to share over at the Catch the Bug blog for Bugaboo Stamps as their guest designer.

Recycle a Ribbon Spool into a Christmas Ornament

I am using an empty ribbon spool to make an adorable Christmas ornament. It can be used as a cute little gift of an ornament or use it for a package decoration that can be reused on the recipient's tree. I hope you’ll give this a try.

Here’s the steps for making the ornament:
Take the empty ribbon spool and pull off one side of the spool leaving the middle of the spool with an open area. If the side doesn’t come off cleanly you may need to sand pieces of paper of to make a smooth surface.

Choose your image and color and die cut the image. I used Bugaboo AKV Elf - Ornament. My die cut is Spellbinders Standard Circle dies but any circular die cut will do.

If the circle is smaller than the open area, you can do what I did and cut the outside of the die to make a background for your image. You can see the red card stock behind my image on my finished ornament.

Tape a piece of ribbon to the back of the ribbon spool to create a hanger for the ornament.

Use designer paper to cover the back of the spool. Trace around the spool and cut it out.

I colored some of the outside parts of the spool with Copic markers. And used ribbon to cover the rim around the circular area.

After you glue the image into the spool you can decorate the outside of the ornament any way you’d like. Add a sentiment, a bow or small branches and pearls as I did here.
I embellished a lot of the image with Stickles. The branches are Spellbinder's Foliage, to which I added some red pearls.
As I said before, these make lovely additions to a package or just to give as a little something to hang on the tree. And why not use all those empty ribbon spools that we have?
I am entering these challenges:
Thanks for checking out my tutorial. If you have any question leave a comment and I'll get back to you. Please share with me anything that you make with a recycled ribbon spool. I have a lot of them and I'm always looking for things to do with them. I'd love to see your creations.

Hugs,
Donna

Hi Donna, a great idea for the empty spools we have. Wondering if this would also work as a shaker with acetate over the front, thank you for the inspiration... Megan

This is sooooo adorable!! For a while I was saving empty ribbon rolls for a project such as this. I think I finally gave in and threw them away. After seeing your ornament, I might have to start saving them again! : ) Thanks for the inspiration and thanks for playing with CHNCC2. (I know I am SUPER late, almost two months, in commenting. I'm so sorry!)
